Lake Bluff's 4th of July Committee has chosen a theme for next summer's parade that is near and dear to the world: It is going green. Citing renewed dedication to the planet, the committee announced that "Red, White and Blue Go Green" encourages all parade-goers and participants to consider their "carbon footprint" while highlighting the positive impact of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly products.
The committee is championing the environmental efforts of others in the Village, such as the 20th anniversary of Lake Bluff's recycling program, LEAD-certification of the new Lake Bluff Elementary School and the fact that more and more people are driving hybrid cars. The Lake
Bluff Parade attracts 100 entrants, and all are asked to plan their floats with energy-efficiency in mind.
"Parades--both in Lake Bluff and across the nation--have always been a cause for praise, reflection, celebration and promotion of a message," Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade Committee President Deb Dintruff said in a press release. "While we are remembering those who serve our country, and the men and women who fought to create the United States, let's take a moment to honor and protect our planet."
The Parade is sponsored and organized by the non-profit Lake Bluff 4th of July Committee, with logistical and other support from American Legion Post 510, the Kiwanis Club, the Community Church and other groups.
