The local theater scene has given aspiring actors opportunities to perform many time-honored parts: "Beauty & The Beast," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Aladdin" (end of May) and "Grease" (this summer). So what's this funny-sounding play called "w00t!" all about? It's a locally written, original musical production that the Academy at Citadel Theatre has commissioned for its summer performance camp.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance for campers to make a part their own," said Scott Phelps, Citadel's artistic director. Since the musical is being written for the A.C.T. camp, there's more room for an ensemble cast. The theme focuses on some very kid-centric themes--namely, music and
technology. It includes music genres such as pop, jazz, blues, rock and rap, and it has a very local leadership. "w00t!" was written by North Shore natives Mike O'Mara and Matt Boresi of the Evanston branch of the Music Institute of Chicago. Staff includes several local theatrical leaders, including Julie LeMalieu of Cherokee Elementary School, Idona Griffith of Woodlands Academy, Christi Geidner of Deerpath Middle School, Elise Moore of the Lake Forest Dance Academy, Christine Cummings of Chicago and Mr. Phelps of Lake Forest.
