As weekends go, this one is huge in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff and it all starts Friday with the 34th annual Firemen's Ball in Lake Bluff. The event supports the Village's all-volunteer Fire Department and is the only fund-raiser conducted throughout year. Though it's called a "ball," tuxedos and glass slippers are most definitely not required. "It's more of a casual community event that's integral to the Fourth of July festivities," said firefighter Jim Seymour. Derrick "Suede" Stout and The Turnstyles will supply the music at the party, which takes place under the Park District's new tent at Blair Park. Tickets cost $15 and you can get them in advance at the Fire Department or Village Hall, or you can buy them Friday night at the door. Can't go? The firefighters won't mind if you send them some money, anyway, as they use the proceeds for training and equipment. ... The Firemen's Ball begins at 7 p.m. at Blair Park.
