"I was like no I'm good."
What does that mean, exactly? Sometimes it can be hard to understand tweens and teens, especially during the middle school years when many kids pull away from their parents. LEAD wants to help, and on Wednesday, Jan. 27, the family advocacy group is hosting "The Middle School Years: A Parents' Guide." The event takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest.
Here's how LEAD describes it: "Connecting with Your Child: Simple Strategies. Find out what kids want you to know but are afraid to say, and how to connect with them. You'll learn hands-on skills to help you develop techniques for successful communication with your child, especially when it comes to tough subjects like drinking, drugs, and other at-risk behavior." Facilitators are Todd Nahigian, CROYA and Dr. Heather Hale. You can register at www.leadweb.org.
